Farooq Karim, Class 30 and Lifetime Member, has agreed to serve as chair of the Recruitment Committee and he has assembled an exemplary team of Regional Recruitment Committee Co-Chairs.  Frequently Asked Questions

Are there criteria for applicants?
Yes. Stated selection criteria encompass personal commitment to Oklahoma, a record of leadership in community and/or state, success in career or vocation and demonstrated vision as well as interest in statewide issues.

Is age a criterion?

Are there selection quotas?
Only suggested geographical guideline based on population of regions. The at-large slots are to help cover any year-to-year variations in quality and numbers or applicants from the various areas.

The suggested class allocations are:

Does the home or employment location apply for deciding which area an applicant represents?
It is the home address.

Are there identified priorities for recruiting?

The Leadership Oklahoma Class 33 Selection Committee, under the leadership of Selection Committee Chair Laurie Tilley, Class XXIII, will seek to identify individuals most likely to utilize their increased awareness and commitment to shape Oklahoma’s future. Participation is open to all citizens of the state. Leadership Oklahoma will seek a class of 50 – 52 leaders who represent the various geographic regions of the state from the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Special consideration will be given to ensure diversity of race, gender and occupational background. Since the selection process is highly competitive with a limited number of participants each year, applicants are encouraged to reapply to subsequent programs if not initially accepted. Applicants will be notified by mail of the selection committee's decision by May 20, 2019.

Does everyone have to submit an application?

Is there an application fee?
There is a non-refundable application fee of $40.00 (only pay $25.00 if application is received by March 1).

What is the application deadline?
The original and 12 two-sided paper clipped copies of the completed application (which includes two letters of recommendation) must be received in the LOK office by 5:00 pm on April 1, 2019.

Will the application deadline be extended by request under extenuating circumstances?

How much is the tuition?
Leadership Oklahoma program tuition is $3,200.00 (the application fee is not part of the tuition) and covers all program costs, transportation during sessions and meals. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the session locations and lodging expenses, except for the shared-occupancy rooms during the opening retreat.

Tuition assistance and extended payment terms are available on a limited basis. Tuition assistance will not exceed 75% ($2400.00). Tuition assistance will be considered on the basis of demonstrated need based upon information provided by April 1, 2019 at The request must indicate the amount needed and the reason for the request. A request for tuition assistance does not affect selection into the program nor does acceptance into the program guarantee tuition assistance. Tuition is due by July 1, 2019.
